Wait for it...

"Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary....
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have not might He increases strength."

"Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not be faint"

(Isaiah 40: 28-31)

BINGO!

Today I ran an errand up near Jasper, Al.  On the way up I took mostly the new corridor X which will be I-22 once its finished.  Anyway, on my way back, I decided to drive on the Highway 78 from Jasper until I got to just past Sumiton and then got back on corridor X.  It was kind of wierd to be honest driving that 10-15 mile stretch.  Every other 500 yards or so, either on one side or another was a  Bingo place.  I don't think I've seen that many bingo places in one area in my entire life.  Needless to say it was disturbing.  All I could think about were those folks who were sitting in there either unemployed hoping to "get lucky" or maybe just retired and don't have anything else better to do, either way, a sad reality of living a life outside of God's grace.  Trying to win by chance, rather than live by faith.  Oh, and then just as I was about to turn off to get on connection road to go to corridor X, a huge billboard with a picture of what one would think Jesus looks like and said, "He's coming, are you ready?"  And there ya have it.

Solitude

Glad to get back in a small group again.  I really have missed the realness and freedom that results from being involved in that type of arena.  I'm thankful for these guys who are faithful to get up early every Saturday morning to get together and talk about real life.  You never know how things are going to go when you start one of these, but with Christ in the center, blessings do abound.  Thanks guys for your desire and commitment.

Storms

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and
complete, lacking in nothing." (James 1: 2-4)

One of my favorite passages in the Word.  However, tonight, I find it difficult to grasp.

"If any one of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all
without reproach, and it will be given him.  But let him ask in faith, with no
doubting, for the one that who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven
and tossed by the wind."

I do lack wisdom.  I'm at a loss here and I am asking God to just give me perspective.  To make me steadfast and calm at heart.  To surround me with wisdom and truth.  To protect me from the evil one.
I want to trust, I want to believe, and now I must fight.

Lord, go before me.

God's Gracious and Generous Provisions...

Again, God never ceases to amaze me. For those who may not know, for the last 8 months I have been given the responsibility of coordinating a ministry called "Feed the Homeless" that our Single's group partners with 3 other area churches to participate in providing a warm meal, some encouragement and love to the homeless community that gather at Linn Park, with the hopes of their hearts being opened to hearing and receiving the awesome love and gospel of God. This responsibility has continually brought me to a place of gracious humility as I've been able to see so many amazing things happen as God has provided for these people.

Last month I was blown away to see God's love and graciousness when our church held a 2 or 3 week drive for donations of warm clothing to give to our homeless friends at Linn Park. We put the word out and God delivered through the congregation at OMPC. It was overwhelming to see the large amount of items that were collected in such a short time! We were able to serve around 150 homeless people with coats, jackets, blankets and other needed items.

Now, this month, as we are on rotation with 3 other churches, it has come to be our turn to provide the meal for our regular monthly event. With the busyness of December this almost fell through the cracks with trying to come up with the food needed to provide for this event. This past Friday, I began to contact some resources to inquire about providing some or all of the food for this event. Today is Tuesday and I was honestly beginning to get a little nervous, with not hearing back from a few and then hearing another just say they would see what they could do and they would call me back.

Then at 11:37 this morning, I got a call on my cell from the manager at Olive Garden - Galleria location. He proceeded to tell me that they could take care of everything for the event in regards to food. How awesome is that! He said they will be providing enough spaghetti with sauce, bread sticks and salad for around 125 people! Praise Him who listens to our prayers, who knows our every need, and always provides in abundance!

Thank You Lord for this provision! Thank You for David Sloan and Olive Garden for your gracious contribution that will feed our homeless friends at Linn Park!

Humbled In Your Name,
Amen
